Whenever a typhoon approaches Taiwan, local governments decide whether to suspend classes and work based on weather forecasts. When a "typhoon day" is announced, two drastically different scenarios often unfold. On the one hand, some people treat it as an unexpected holiday. It is common to see crowds flocking to cinemas, KTVs, or department stores to enjoy themselves, seemingly ignoring the potential danger outside. On the other hand, the reality of the typhoon can be brutal. The contrasting scene shows flooded streets, uprooted trees, and essential workers—such as medical staff, policemen, or repairmen—struggling through the roaring wind and heavy rain to maintain social order and safety. As for my own experience, I always choose to stay safely indoors during a typhoon day. I usually spend the time reading books, catching up on my studies, or simply enjoying peaceful moments with my family. From my perspective, the primary purpose of a typhoon day is to ensure citizens' safety, not to provide an extra day for entertainment. Therefore, we should stay home to avoid accidents and show our deepest respect for those who must work in such hazardous conditions.
